The specific curing measures, as well as their start time and duration, depend on the structure, its size and shape, the type of concrete used, and the surrounding conditions. Contrary to popular belief, concrete shrinkage is not significantly affected by the duration of curing. Once curing is complete, the concrete shrinks due to water evaporation (drying shrinkage).
However, the longer the curing process, the better the concrete resists the stresses caused by shrinkage. Curing primarily ensures the development of concrete’s tensile strength. A well-cured structure exhibits improved hardened concrete properties, such as wear resistance and density.
